It is hard to believe that we have already completed our first full week of school! Everyday for the last five days has been spent welcoming our students back to the library, going over what is new in the library this year and, of course, checking out books. This year we have a better self check out system that students began using on day one. This self check out is better because it is a desktop computer rather than a laptop on a cart that goes to “sleep”.
Students are getting being asked to recommend books in new ways- thanks to Pinterest! Students are helping me build a Good Reads wall by adding book spines to the display. They are also recommending books in a fish bowl for other students to Go Fish for a good book!
Perhaps the best part of the first week was seeing the students so excited to check out the new books that we received over the summer- and getting more books than they have in past years. This year, I decided that if a student wants to take out more books than the usual number for their grade, I am letting them! It is so important for students to have as many books as possible, or as many books as they can be responsible for. The smiles when the students found out they could take more books will stay with me for the entire school year. Here are some pictures from the first week of library.
