Mock Newbery Celebration

Our fifth graders celebrated their Mock Newbery with the students at Hill Elementary.  After reading the five books, discussing the books online, and finally voting for a winner, we celebrated with a big reveal and cake.  Students played an ice breaker game to get to know each other since this is the first time they met face-to-face.  Then we revealed the winners- both ours and the ALA and enjoyed some delicious cake!  We also played a Newbery Bingo game based on the five books the students read.

The students awarded their Mock Newbery Medal to The Night Gardener with Rain Reign winning an Honor.  Since the students had no idea which book would win, they were very excited to find out.  Along with the announcement of our winner, we shared the ALA Newbery Medal and Honor books.  One of the books we read, El Deafo, won a Newbery Honor from ALA.  Another book Rain Reign won the Schneider Family Book Award.
